Bathrooms - What’s New

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the home, so it is important to make it a room that looks good, functions well and adds to the value of your property. There are some great new innovations in bathrooms so we’ve spoken to Belinda Geels, Reece Showroom Marketing Coordinator, to find out what the latest trends are.

Upcoming Trends

Geels tells us what we can expect over the upcoming seasons. “Anything catering for personal wellbeing. Citrus colours and organic shapes are becoming popular. There is a move towards soft minimalism – a term coined by European designers. In other words, harsh lines are becoming softer.”

Water Efficiency

Bathrooms are also becoming much more luxurious while still remaining practical and easy to use. Water conservation also plays a part in the modern bathroom as Geels points out. “Water conservation is quite important and very easy to implement. Bathroom suppliers such as Reece are selling more and more water efficient products.

“As of January next year, many products will be given a water efficient star rating under the WELS scheme. The higher the star rating, the more efficient the tapware. This will be a great guide for the discerning consumer.”

Baths and Showers

Baths are spas are still mainstays in the bathroom, as people put more emphasis on relaxation and time for themselves. Showers have evolved from the old “place to quickly get clean” to something more luxurious.

“Ceiling mounted showers or horizontal shower arms mounted with large luxurious shower heads are coming in. Nearly all showers now have water saving features, yet deliver a generous amount of pressure,” says Geels.

New Materials and Colours

Tiles are still the most popular material used in bathrooms but they are now coming in feature sizes or colours. “Citrus colours are the up and coming trend but neutral tones are always safe. This way, you can add colour with towels and bathroom accessories. Textured finishes are also rising in popularity,” says Geels.

New Features

As for new features in the bathroom, “everything is coming off the floor and onto the wall. Basins, vanity units and toilets…the trend is to wall hang. This also creates an illusion of space,” Geels advises.

So if you’ve been thinking of upgrading your bathroom, try some of the above trends or speak to a professional about how to create a bathroom that perfectly fits your needs.
