If the exterior of your home is looking tired and worn down, you can rejuvenate it and bring it back to new extremely cost effectively by using weatherboard cladding.  Read on to find out more about what weatherboard cladding is and how you can use it on your home.

What is Weatherboard Cladding?

Weatherboards are a type of cladding that is commonly used to cover the outside of a building so that it looks attractive and also protects the building. Weatherboards are made from timber or reconstituted hardwood that can be painted or stained to choice, or they can be made from vinyl.  Timber weatherboards or weatherboards that contain timber use timber that is from sustainable sources.  Nothing beats the look of timber weatherboards but be aware that they may require ongoing maintenance t keep them looking their best (re-painting, re-staining or re-sealing every couple of years etc) Vinyl weatherboards are available in a huge range of colours, and are commonly formed to look like timber, without the associated maintenance.  All you have to do is wash the weatherboards periodically (once or twice a year) with a mild detergent and water.  Yet another option for weatherboards is those made from fibre cement.  Fibre cement weatherboards are resistant to moisture, rotting, termites, and fire when correctly maintained.

Using Weatherboard Cladding

Weatherboards are ideal for cladding the outside of the home and they can be fixed to all kinds of substrates including fibre cement, brick, and so on.  You can choose to clad the entire home using weatherboards or you can combine weatherboards with other building materials such as brick, render, stone, and even timber to create a huge range of looks.  It really is up to you.  Weatherboards are available in different profiles thus suiting homes that are traditional or contemporary.

Weatherboards are quick and easy to install on any home and they are lightweight yet strong.  No matter what the weatherboard is made from, you can expect a long life from them if they are installed and maintained correctly.
