Wall Beds

Do you need an extra bed in your home but simply don’t have the space to justify it?  You could opt for a sofa bed or even a futon but there is another option that you may not have thought of before – a wall bed.  Wall beds, or Murphy beds, are an excellent space-saving solution as you can simply fold the bed away when you no longer need it, leaving the rest of the room available for whatever you may need it for.

Options in Wall Beds

Wall beds come in a range of sizes, from single through to king size.  The beds themselves fold up into a “bed cabinet” which is securely mounted to the wall.  The cabinet itself only takes up 40cm of floor space and it looks like a stylish piece of furniture.  The beds are available in a vertical or a side tilt pattern, and are strong and safe.  You are also able to select things such as the design, material and colour of the wall bed, as well as whether or not you need extra cabinets built into the wall bed for extra storage of linens or whatever.

Wall beds are great for guests as they do not require that the mattress be folded in any way before being folded back into the wall for storage.  There are no bumps or lumps in the mattress so guests can get a quality night’s sleep.  As an added bonus, it is possible to fold the wall bed away fully made up with all sheets and pillows, meaning that the spare bed is always ready for those unexpected visitors.  You can even use your standard mattress on the wall bed, as long as it is between 25 and 30 centimetres in depth.

Safety in Wall Beds

These beds are also safe for children, as they have a two point child safety mechanism with the release points being well out of the reach of children.  The bed is not attached to the floor in any way, rather it is attached to the wall at three points, and the locking mechanism will stop the bed from falling and keep it safely secured inside the cabinet when it is not in use.  The bed is also able to take a weight of up to 380 kilograms.
