Every home has a dark area where not much natural light seems to penetrate. Maybe it is a bathroom, a kitchen, or even a walk-in cupboard. But there is no need to install lights and use electricity. A skylight is the perfect way to bring in natural light, and uplift and illuminate an area of your home.
In actual fact, many homes today do not have enough natural light. Natural light is important in the home as it is uplifting, makes a space look bigger, reduces eyestrain, and increases productivity. As well as these benefits, natural light is better for the environment as it reduces the household’s dependence on electrical lighting and thus lowers electricity bills.
Skylights are a fantastic option for increasing natural light as they can be installed practically anywhere and do not take up valuable space on the wall. In fact, a skylight can provide up to 30 percent more light than a standard vertical window can! As an added bonus, many skylights can provide ventilation as well, making them even more invaluable in the bathroom.
You can choose to install a fixed skylight or a tubular skylight. Fixed skylights are usually made from acrylic and it comes in a range of sizes and styles. These types of skylights are relatively cheap and their versatility means that they can be installed just about anywhere. Tubular skylights are one of newer types of skylights and they can provide enough light for a whole room. Tubular skylights work by capturing sunlight and reflecting it down a shaft, which then diffuses the light into the space below. Tubular skylights can come in much smaller sizes than fixed skylights, making them perfect for spaces such as the smallest bathroom or walk-in cupboard.
