Precast Panels

Using Precast Panels

Precast panels are generally attached to the outside of a steel frame, which supports the roof and wind loads.  The steel structure used can be made from hot rolled hot dipped galvanised universal beams or cold formed steel.  The precast panels are made from concrete and can be used in wood or steel framed homes.  Steel frames are the more common option however.

Precast panels are an excellent option for the home as they are made in a controlled environment.  This ensures that the quality is not only high, but consistent.

What is Available in Precast Panels?

When using precast panels, any shape or block out can be accommodated.  In fact, the only limitation lies in the size and weight of the panel.  You can even use your own ideas.  The manufacturing company will sit down with you to discuss your ideas and then create a design from them that is ultimately used to create the panels.

You can opt for design features such as stenciling, and choose to have your windows and door openings located exactly where you want them to be.  Other design features that you can choose from may include stucco, stone look, integrally cast brick, and siding.  Depending on the design that you choose, the interior surface of the panel may only need drywall at the panel joints and a coat of paint. Because concrete is so dense, the precast panel can help to insulate against interior and exterior noise, improving your quality of living.

Benefits of Using Precast Panels

There are several benefits of using precast panels.  These include:

  • consistent quality of work
  • time spent on site is reduced
  • the manufacture of the panels and fabrication of the steelwork is done independently of the worksite
  • different architectural finishes can be used that cannot normally be used in on site cast concrete
  • total construction time is reduced
  • the panels can be made regardless of what the weather is like
  • pigments can be added to the concrete to reduce painting and maintenance costs
  • the panels can be painted before they’re installed
  • large areas of wall panels can be erected in a short period of time
  • insulation – both sound and heat
  • resistant to termites
  • very low maintenance
  • high energy efficiency
  • non combustible
