Create a suburban oasis – maximise your pool in a small space
In Australian capital cities the blocks of land available for purchase are becoming smaller and our houses are generally larger. Twenty years ago the average house had three bedrooms, a dining and living area, but recently built houses now have four bedrooms and sometimes an additional family room.
Consequently there is much less space in our backyards and individually designed pools to suit the house are replacing the traditional installation of a 9m x 4.5m pool. Lap pools and splash pools are being built to serve a purpose for exercise or recreation with convenience and pleasing aesthetic styling.
Many people are opting to have a functional pool that suits their lifestyle while reflecting the style of their home. Along with this, technological advances have assisted in making new design concepts more accessible to the average family. For instance, its now possible to have jets installed in your pool allowing you to swim against a current for exercise while staying in the same position, much in the same way a treadmill allows you to run on the spot.
The modern pool can be built in a number of places in and around your home, uses water economically, and enables all sorts of options for heating. In the 1980’s pools used an average of 55,000L of water to fill them, now you only have to use a maximum of 20,000L.
Using less water means it’s more economical to heat your pool, allowing you to swim for more months in the year. By installing a gas heater, electric pump, or solar heating system you can maintain a comfortable water temperature in all sorts of weather, while keeping your home’s energy consumption low.
Smaller pools are generally easier to maintain and by purchasing an automatic cleaner and chemical dosing system, your pool can be clean and refreshing at all times with minimal maintenance.
