Palmwood flooring is an eco-friendly flooring option that looks great in all areas of your home. Read on to find out more about this new choice!
Palmwood flooring is made from over-mature coconut palms that no longer produce fruit as they are too old. By felling these trees and using the timber for flooring, fruit-bearing trees can be planted and thus prevent deforestation. The coconut palms are sourced from South-East Asia.
Palmwood flooring consists of strip-flooring boards. Each board is a solid piece of wood that has been cut from the trunk of the coconut palm. No lamination is used and boards are laid using a glue-only installation system. The boards have a janka hardness rating of 10, which is equivalent to Blackbutt and Brushbox, and are very durable. Palmwood flooring is more stable than other hardwood floors, as it experiences less expansion and contractions during fluctuations in humidity.
The boards have a striking colour, appearance and grain structure. Because the natural flooring is produced without any finishing, the homeowner has options on how their floor will be finished. The boards can be finished with solid oil or wax based finished. Pre-finished palmwood has an 8 layer wear-resistant coating that is virtually no maintenance.
