Go Mod: The Latest in Modern Bathroom Design

Topic: Bathroom Design

Modern bathroom design is all about enhancing the bathing experience, with an emphasis on calming frayed nerves and soothing overworked bodies.  Local bathroom design is strongly influenced by European styling, particularly in the fittings and fixtures department with minimalism very much on the agenda. There is logic behind this emphasis on simplicity, as we look to maximise this often confined space.

Style in the Modern Bathroom

Style is ultimately about stamping your personality on a room, so the sky is the limit – but be open to current trends in modern bathroom design. These include ensuites which seamlessly carry through the design ethos from the bedroom into the bathroom, and are the ultimate in convenience and luxury.  If space allows, a free standing bath is also a great centrepiece for any bathroom, and can be offset by stylish Euro inspired tapware, with single mixers the order of the day. Unusual tiles can provide visual interest as well as creating practical and tactile textures.

Colour in the Modern Bathroom

The modern bathroom is still dominated by light shades, but is now contrasted with bright accents, either in the form of tiles, paint or accessories. Aquamarine, azure, indigo and sapphire are always going to look good, but if you are feeling bolder go for earthy reds and browns, or even black - which both work well with a white palette. Remember that you will be moving between your bedroom and bathroom – so try coordinate themes or be audacious and go for a distinct ambience in each.

Space in the Modern Bathroom

Space is always at a premium and nowhere more so than the modern bathroom. The difference is now we have a range of nifty (and stylish) fixtures and fittings that help us eke out every inch of room.  Hidden cisterns are all the rage, with wall mounted toilets to complement them.  Floating vanities and basins continue the theme and further reduce their footprint and enhance the minimalist mood.  Storage is also functional, integrated and customisable.  Generous mirrors further enhance the sense of space, accentuating fittings and fixtures - and adding a much needed touch of glamour.

Technology is very much a part of the modern bathroom experience, and is all about increasing convenience and luxury.  The list of options is mind boggling, with touch-sensitive electronic controls - originally seen in the commercial environment – now making their way into private homes.  The infrared sauna is another clever innovation, which offers a modern take on the traditional version, sporting digital controls and an instant sauna experience without the wait.  Heated everything is also on the modern menu – including floors and towel warming drawers.
