Cosy Bedrooms

Does your bedroom feel like just a place to sleep? It doesn’t have to. With a few tips and tricks, it is possible to create a bedroom that you will feel so comfortable and relaxed in that you’ll never want to leave!

Create a Feeling of Cosiness

So, how can you make your room feel cosy? It’s all about using colour, texture and materials to create your own unique sense of style. Think thick carpets, where your feet sink into the pile, or if you cannot lay a new carpet, throw down a luxurious rug. Curtains and blinds should be made from thick, light-absorbing materials and drape richly around the window.

The bed is the most important and dominant element of any bedroom so it makes sense to make it a focal point. Choose bed linen that is comfortable and use throw rugs and cushions to make it look more inviting.

Remember that cosy does not mean clutter. There is nothing cosy or relaxing about having to pick your way through piles of stuff because there is nowhere for it to go. A well-designed wardrobe or stylish dresser will display or hide your items as necessary and become part of the overall bedroom showcase.

Choosing Colours

For a cosy feel, spend time choosing the right colours. Try not to go too bright but, by the same token, don’t go too neutral either. Choose the colours that make you feel relaxed and comfortable.

If you have a large room that feels too empty, try using a deep, rich colour such as chocolate, royal blue or deep pink. This will help to “shrink” the feeling of emptiness and make the space feel much more intimate.

To play up the different textures within a room, use a monochromatic colour scheme. Having different shades of the same colour will really help to emphasise textures such as suede, satin, silk and faux fur. To add more texture to a room, think about using wallpaper or decadent paint finishes such as metallic, limewash, pearl and so forth.

Lighting

Fluorescent lights are out of the equation if you want your bedroom to be a cosy retreat. These lights are harsh, unforgiving and do nothing to enhance the mood. For a feeling of luxury, mood lighting is definitely the way to go.

Think downlights, wall sconces, and even lights that shine out from underneath the bed. Lamps are a must in any bedroom and can provide not only mood lighting, but light for reading in bed. All lights should be fitted with a dimmer of some sort so that the precise amount of light can be controlled.
