Your shower is one of the most important aspects of the bathroom and one of the most used. The quality of your shower head can mean the difference between a shower you enjoy and a shower you loathe so it’s vital that you choose the right one for you. Here are our tips on how to choose a shower head.
There are two main types of shower heads available today – those that are fixed in place, and those that have a handset. Fixed shower heads are permanently mounted to the wall or in the ceiling, and include the standard style shower heads that we are all used to as well as the newer rain style and waterfall style shower heads. Handsets are those that have a flexible hose to allow you to direct the water where needed. They can be used in the same way as a standard fixed shower head when placed in a bracket.
For more luxury, you can forego the standard types of showers and opt for a shower system. These are systems that contain valves, shower heads, hand held shower heads, water outlets, and body sprays to turn the humble shower into a full spa experience.
Today’s modern shower heads come with many features to make life easier. Enjoy a shower that saves you water while still feeling great by installing a WELS rated shower head. These are designed to use less water without affecting your showering experience.
To make your shower more pleasant for all the users you can find shower heads that are fully adjustable. This means you can turn them for younger children or people that have sensitive skin and turn up the pressure for when you want a good, therapeutic soak. Safety wise, choose a shower head that is thermostatic. By that, we mean one that can set maximum and minimum water temperatures so that you don’t get scalded by hot water or frozen by cold water.
No matter what type of new shower head you choose, you need to make sure that it fits in your shower, especially if you are renovating. Look for one that has a universal fit or take your old shower head into the plumbing supply store with you so you can compare between your old and new one.
