Topic: Pest Control
Birds are beautiful creatures but if they are eating all your plants, or getting into areas where they shouldn’t, you may wish that you could admire them from further afar! Bird netting (see bird control for more information) is the perfect way to keep birds from going where they shouldn’t and there are no chemicals that could potentially hurt your plants or people. Read on for more about bird netting.
Bird netting is a type of net that is generally made from UV resistant and weather resistant polyethylene that is woven into netting that resembles those used in fishing nets, only stronger. The aim of bird netting is to protect your plants or crops from birds that eat the fruit and vegetables that you’ve worked hard to grow, stop birds from taking fish out of your ponds, or to stop birds going into certain environments. For example, you can use bird netting to prevent birds from roosting in your home, or to keep them out of an area so that there are no droppings and the like.
Bird netting is generally available in different sizes and lengths so that you can choose the appropriate netting for your situation. The netting can be delivered to your home or property for you to install yourself or it can be supplied and delivered. If you are not sure about how to install bird netting, it is best to get the help of a professional. Many bird nets are a “throw over” type, so that they can be used seasonally. However, it is just as easy to attach the nets to a frame for permanent protection. Install the nets by hand or use specialist machinery can be used (great for larger areas such as orchards).
When using netting, it is important that there are no gaps in the area that you are protecting, and that you use a net that is small enough so that birds cannot get through it. You can choose from white or black netting generally. Black may be less obvious if that is important to you.
