Bathroom - Automation

With home automation becoming ever more popular and accessible, it’s no surprise to see that it’s now possible to bring automation features into the bathroom.  Read on to find out more about what’s available in the world of bathroom automation.

What is Bathroom Automation?

The purpose of a home automation system is to be able to control electric or electronic systems via an easy to use, common interface.  The purpose of home automation is to create functionality, convenience, and flexibility for the people that live in the home.  It is about improving the lifestyle as well as increasing the value of the home.  Automation in the bathroom is capable of performing many tasks.  For example, things such as your lights, fans, and heated towel rails can be operated automatically, while the stereo or TV can start playing as you are bathing or performing other tasks.  The bathroom is no longer just a place of preparation or getting clean!

All about Bathroom Automation

Bathroom automation, as previously stated, encompasses a number of things.  These include:

  • Wall mounted and portable controls – this helps to link the bathroom to the rest of the house, so that you can do things such as answer a phone call, see who’s at the door, supervise children, listen to music or watch TV.
  • Lights – lighting can be set to a range of scenarios so an intelligent lighting system is necessary.  This system can turn on the lights when someone enters the room and turn them off again when a person is leaving the bathroom.  Indoor sensors are capable of maintaining preset lighting levels as the natural light changes.
  • Security features – these features will turn on the lights and turn off fans, heaters, and heated towel rails off in the event of a fire occurring.
  • Heating and cooling – these can sense the temperature in the room and turn on in order to provide the user with the desired temperature.  They can be set to operate only when a person is in the room.
  • Exhaust fans – these start when the shower is turned on and they will turn off automatically a set time after the shower has been turned off.
  • Built in screens – these screens can act as a mirror, as a television, be used as an internet screen, and more.

Remember the Future

It is also important that you think about any future expansion of the automation system, even if you believe that you have everything you need as you never know what the future will bring.  Ensure that you have sufficient outlets and wiring as well as enough space to install future appliances or hardware.
