Flooring - Bamboo

The warmth of wood is a fantastic addition to any home, and one of the newest advancements in timber flooring is bamboo.  Bamboo flooring is strong, looks unique, and is good for the environment.  Read on to learn more.

Bamboo Flooring is Strong and Sustainable

Many people, when looking at timber flooring, will look at the traditional hardwood options, or pine.  However, bamboo flooring is actually stronger than most other types of wood and it has a tensile strength that is comparable to steel.  On top of this, the fast-growing nature of bamboo means that it is more renewable and more sustainable than other types of wood, sealing its reputation as being environmentally friendly.

Bamboo Flooring – Unique in Colour and Allergy Free

Bamboo is also naturally light in colour which is unique amongst hardwoods as most hardwoods have a strong depth of colour, making it perfect for people that love light flooring but don’t want to opt for softwoods such as pine.

Bamboo flooring comes to your home already pre-finished, eliminating the need to use solvents or finishes.  Bamboo comes finished with five layers of solvent-free polyurethane and two top layers of a German Klumpp finish that contains aluminium oxide.  The fact that it is so low in solvents means that it is the perfect choice for those that may suffer from allergies as it is virtually allergy free.

Bamboo Flooring – Stable, and Easy to Install

The flooring is installed as a tongue and groove system and it can be installed over many different types of floors such as concrete, plywood, existing hardwoods, and tiles.  The only requirement is that the existing flooring surface is hard, flat, and dry.

Bamboo is much more stable than other types of wood flooring and it will not expand or contract as much as traditional wood floors do.  This is because bamboo is naturally moisture resistant.  Even though it is a wood flooring system, bamboo is termite-resistant.
