Post Cap Lights

Post cap lights are installed on the top of your railing posts and they are a beautiful lighting solution for your deck. They are available in many different shapes, styles and colours so you are sure to find ones that suit your deck and the style of your home perfectly.  As post cap lights can sometimes be in your field of vision when you are sitting down, consider getting ones that you can dim, so you don’t have to worry about glare becoming a problem.

Railing and Post Lights

Railing and post lights are those that are installed on the posts of the railing or underneath the railing itself.  They can be installed low to the ground or higher up but the key to remember is that you should not see the bulb when you are sitting down on your outdoor furniture as the glare will impair your night vision.

Step Lights

Step lights are a must have in any deck for both safety and aesthetics.  These lights are actually inset into the deck itself and shine upwards.  You can use them all around the perimeter of the deck, just on the stairs, or both the deck and stairs as you like.  An alternative to the lights that shine upwards are lights that are actually inset to the side of the stair so that they shine outwards.  Step lights are usually circular in shape.

Rope Lights/Fairy Lights

If you are after something a little bit more whimsical for your deck lighting, you can’t go past rope lights or fairy lights.  Modern rope and fairy lights use LED bulbs which are very energy efficient and capable of creating a myriad of different effects.  You can drape them from the railing, from the beams in the overhead roofing, along a wall or however you like.

Solar Lighting

Are you looking for a lighting solution that costs practically nothing to run, that is cheap to buy, and that doesn’t have any wires to worry about?  Solar deck lighting is the solution here!  Solar deck lights give off an attractive glow and can be found in a range of fixtures from step light to post cap lights to spotlights and more.  As long as the solar cell is charged, you’ll have light!
