10 Feng Shui Tips for Your Home

Jan 2, 2011 by

Topic: Feng Shui

If your home doesn’t feel quite right, and you can’t seem to get perfectly comfortable, you may have a problem with your feng shui.  It might sound a little weird but following these easy feng shui tips can help you to create a happier, healthier, more harmonious environment to live in.

#1 – Keep Your Plants Healthy

Dead or dying plants not only look terrible but they can also attract negative energy to your home.  To stop this from happening, ensure that you remove dead plants, and prune off any dead leaves or flowers you see as soon as you can.

#2 – Use Mirrors Wisely

While mirrors can be very useful, you have to make sure that you are using them properly.  Never use mirrors that cut off the top of your head or that break up your reflection (mirror mosaics or mirror tiles).  Also make sure that you are not facing a mirror when you are in bed.

#3 – Keep Electronic Equipment Where It Belongs

By this we mean, try and keep televisions, DVD players, computers and other electronic equipment out of the bedrooms wherever you can.  If you simply cannot do this (if you need noise to sleep, or you have no space elsewhere), make sure that they can be covered somehow when you go to sleep.  This could be as easy as draping sheets over them, but better still, have them in a cabinet that you can close the doors of.

#4 – Place the Stove Correctly

In feng shui, the stove is considered to be the most important object in the kitchen so it needs to be placed correctly.  Ideally, it will be against a solid wall and not visible from the main entrance to the home.  It should also not be against an exterior wall, especially if that wall has windows.  For even better feng shui, ensure that all burners on the stove are used regularly.

#5 – Get Rid of the Clutter

As everyone knows, clutter seems to accumulate out of nowhere, even if you have just done a spring clean.  However, it is important to keep your home free of clutter as this can leave you stuck in the past and make it difficult to move forward.  Not to mention, clutter just plain doesn’t look good.

#6 – Get the Entrance Right

Another tip is to have a good front entrance.  Ideally, your entrance will be spacious and filled with light.  The door should open inwards to encourage the flow of positive energy and it shouldn’t be directly opposite the back door otherwise energy will just go straight out the house.  Fresh flowers and pictures you love in the entrance will encourage positive energy.

#7 – Place Your Bed Properly

We spend a lot of time in bed, sleeping, so to ensure good sleep and relaxation, place your bed so that it is against a solid wall.  The bed should be opposite the door and never on the same wall as the door is.  Don’t let the foot of the bed point towards the door if you can help it. If there is no choice, close the door while you sleep.

#8 – Choose the Right Furniture

Too many pieces of heavy, chunky furniture can cause the occupants of a room to feel slow and tired.  Stop this from becoming a problem by choosing lighter pieces of furniture and making sure that the room has plenty of natural light.

#9 – Ventilate Your Home Well

Stale air is representative of stale energy so it is important to get plenty of fresh air into your home.  Do this by opening doors and windows every day and it can also help to use beautiful indoor plants to help improve your air quality.

#10 – Be Careful With Water Features

While water features are absolutely beautiful, they are very powerful and they can intensify the energy in a home, whether positive or negative.  If you’ve noticed that things have taken a turn for the worse since you’ve put a water feature in, try moving it somewhere else or turning it off altogether.
